Ready, Set,
Prepare!
Reflection Activities
Reflection helps kids think about what they have
done and the impact of their actions. Many
activities can help bring a service project full
circle, but one that we recommend is simply talking
as a group. Here are some questions that you can use
to guide conversation for wrap-up:
Reflection Questions:
1. What did we do today?
2. What is one thing you learned today that you did
not know before?
3. What are you most proud of that you did today?
4. What was your favorite moment? Why?
5. What advice would you give someone to help them
be more prepared?
6. What will you do to teach others what you learned
today?
Follow-up Activity:
Emergency Drill
Time: 15 minutes
Materials: Stopwatch, Emergency Plan and Kit
(you should have prepared these during your
preflection!)
Directions: We can think about potential
disasters and plan by making sure everything is in
place, but we will never know if your plan will work
unless we try it. Start your next meeting by
recapping the Ready, Set, Prepare! service project.
Be sure to ask the youth where the emergency kit is
and what is in it. Once you have finished this recap
act as if you are going to move on to a new
activity, but then call out “Fire Drill” or “Tornado
Drill” and start the stopwatch. Depending on your
club and how effective your preflection was, you
might need to provide more direction, but that is up
to you to decide. Once your club makes it to the
rendezvous point with the emergency kit, stop the
stopwatch and let your youth know how long it took.
Repeat these drills randomly once every 3 or 4
meetings and keep a record of the time so that the
youth can see their improvement with practice.
