Skills-based Volunteering
Skills-based volunteering is the intersection of a person's professional skills and experience with the needs of nonprofits. Hands On Nashville is now offering a Skills Bank - a collaborate initiative that provides a means for local nonprofits to connect with volunteers who have specific skills to meet the nonprofits organizational needs.
Examples include:
- Designing an organization's website.
- Training on human resource issues.
- Translating program materials into another language.
- Statistical data.
- Providing expert carpentry skills.
- Presenting workshops to students.
For companies, skills-based volunteering by their employees can serves as cost-effective training and development tool.
For employees, skills-based volunteering serves as a highly developmental experience which can expand and sharpen workplace skills.
