Description: Dismas House is looking for a volunteer to develop and implement evening programming for its residents on Thursday nights from 7:30 to 8:30pm. This volunteer must serve a positive role model who can provide weekly group sessions in one of the following areas: budgeting and finance management, life skills, or any other subject that would be beneficial to individuals transitioning from prison to the greater community.
Time Commitment: Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30pm.
Lutheran Services in Tennessee
Description: Assist teaching parenting classes each Thursday morning. This volunteer will be working with low-income and/or homeless women to help them develop parenting skills and assist in creating healthy family situations. Primary teachers needed as well. This volunteer should have knowledge of basic parenting curriculum.
Time Commitment: Classes start in May and will continue through the summer. Classes are held on Thursday mornings for three hours.
Description: NALC is in need of One-on-One Volunteer Tutors to help teach English-speaking adults how to read and teach English to adult immigrants. Volunteers will meet continuously with the same student. The Nashville Adult Literacy Council also needs tutors for its Drop-in Learning program, called Start Now. Start Now allows learners on NALC’s waiting list to call and schedule hour appointments for immediate instruction while waiting for a full-time, One-on-One Tutor.
Time Commitment: NALC asks volunteers for a six-month minimum commitment with a weekly time commitment of three hours.
