March Madness Male Volunteer Recruitment Event
Did you know that of the 200 current CASA Nashville volunteers, only 17% are male?
By comparison, the children we serve are 51% male.
We’re looking for more male volunteers to support our work!
Guys, please join us on Wednesday, March 18th when we’ll host a combination Happy Hour / March Madness Kickoff / Male Volunteer Recruitment Event. Bring a friend and enjoy drinks and food on us while you watch the games at Jed's Sports Bar & Grille in Midtown. We’ll have some great door prizes to give away, as well as some folks on hand to tell you more about what CASA does, how to become a volunteer, and the impact that your work can have in the lives of some of Davidson County’s most vulnerable young people.
Why is it so important that we recruit more males?
Research shows us that we form social bonds most easily with individuals who are similar to ourselves. In recent years at CASA Nashville, we’ve seen an increase in the number of adolescents in our caseloads, and these young people need positive role models. The disproportionality that exists between the number of males we serve and the number of male volunteers on our roster means that, quite simply, we have room to improve. We could be serving these kids better.
Volunteers advocate on behalf of these children and adolescents in the court system, but their presence is meaningful on many other levels. Our advocates often become mentors, friends, and confidantes, but most importantly, they are constant, caring adults in times that are, by nature, turbulent and filled with uncertainty. In truth, a CASA volunteer is sometimes the only constant adult in a child or adolescent’s life during the time that they are caught in an overburdened child welfare system.
