Teddy's Wagon Driver

Teddy’s Wagon, Nashville Humane Association’s 26’ mobile adoption unit, travels to local parks, festivals, events, and area businesses nearly every weekend of each month (with the exception of holidays). This unit enables NHA not only to facilitate nearly 200 animal adoptions off-site each year but to gain presence and visibility in Davidson County communities. Many of NHA’s personable, dedicated, and experienced volunteers serve as Adoption Aides on Teddy’s Wagon and enjoy representing the agency at fun events across town such as: Musician’s Corner, Nashville CARES AIDS Walk, Bark in the Park, and Nashville Pride Festival.

The Teddy’s Wagon Driver will need to arrive by 8:30am on his / her day of service to hitch the trailer, stock any needed supplies for the day, and load the animals (Teddy’s Wagon Load-In volunteers may assist in morning preparations as well). The Driver remains with the vehicle throughout the event, oversees / assists in any adoptions, and unloads the vehicle upon return to the shelter (with the assistance of Load-Out volunteers if available).

Animal lovers who have a CDL or extensive experience driving large vehicles pulling campers, trailers, or boats are great candidates for this position. Applicants must also possess customer service and interpersonal skills and the ability to process basic paperwork.

Requirements / Notes: This position requires a valid driver’s license and involves some moderate-to-heavy lifting and agility. Candidates should not have any known dog / cat allergies or injuries that would be further aggravated by any of the required physical tasks.

Trainings: Teddy’s Wagon Training on August 4 (6-7:30pm); shadow Animal Care Supervisor (current driver) during upcoming events.

Additional Trainings: Candidate should complete an online volunteer application (necessary for logging volunteer hours), a new volunteer orientation, and one animal socialization class. Volunteer Coordinator will schedule these additional trainings with interested candidates.

Commitment: One Saturday per month, approx. 7-8 hours per event. Although the shifts are mostly Saturdays, occasionally Sundays or weekdays may be offered.
