ESL Youth Program

The Salvation Army is one of only a few locations that offer Youth Programming to the children of ESL students.  ESL Students are in class to get a better job, attain higher education, and more. Youth Program volunteers have the exciting opportunity to support the children in their education through tutoring and English games and providing them with a fun, safe space after school.
 
Volunteers are able to choose the age group they are interested in working with. Available groups are:
 
Ages 3 – 5:  Support children prepare for Pre-K. Volunteers with ages 3 -5 are provided with English lessons/games and are also asked to prepare one activity for the children as well each week.
 
Ages 6 – 10:  Tutoring and outdoor play, coloring, or other designated prepared activity
 
Ages 11 – 15: Tutoring, outdoor play, designated prepared activity
 
Commitment Required:
  • The ESL Classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. and there is a 6 week commitment to the Youth Program. 
  • We need 2 - 4 children's program volunteers each week, and ask for a six week commitment. If there are more volunteers, volunteers are put on a weekly rotation with the children's program so they could volunteer more than 1 - 2 times per month rather than weekly (if needed).
Qualifications:
  • Age: 18 & up
  • To have a heart for uplifting people and positive attitude
  • Flexibility and patience

Sign In 6:00 - 6:15 p.m. Staff
English Lesson and Homework Tutoring 6:15 - 6:45 p.m. Staff Prepared Lesson for Volunteer
Snack Break 6:45 - 7:00 p.m. Staff and Volunteers
Outdoor play, age appropriate games, coloring etc. 7 - 7:30  p.m. Staff Prepared Game for Volunteer
