Adult Mentoring with People Returning from Incarceration

Intentional social relationships can transform an often isolating reentry experience into a life-affirming period of growth and self-reflection.

Project Return seeks adult mentors who believe in the “power of relationship” to help our participants build a full and free life after incarceration. Volunteers join a supportive community of mentors who are committed to addressing one of the most pressing social issues of our time, all while building strong relationships.

Mentors receive a two-hour orientation at Project Return that covers issues of mass incarceration, reentry, and mentoring basics. After being matched with a mentee, the mentor and mentee have the freedom to meet at their convenience, although mentors are expected to commit to 2-5 hours per month, with at least one of those hours being an in-person session with a mentee. Mentors can commit to 1-on-1 mentoring or recruit other people to engage in group mentoring with one or more mentees. Mentoring Services Coordinator provides regular, constructive guidance for volunteer mentors.
