Opportunity Details

Parthenon Gallery Painting Volunteers

The Parthenon stands proudly as the centerpiece of Centennial Park and serves as an iconic Nashville treasure. While most remember the 42 foot statue of Athena, the Parthenon also serves as Nashville's art museum. The focus of the Parthenon's permanent collection is a group of 63 paintings by 19th and 20th century American artists donated by James M. Cowan. The additional gallery spaces provide a venue for a variety of temporary shows and exhibits.

The Parthenon staff needs help painting the East Gallery in preparation for a new exhibition. The gallery space is approximately 46' by 40'. Volunteers will assist the Parthenon Curators with taping off the floor and ceiling, using roller extensions to paint the walls, and a brush to cut in around the trim. Ladders are used to reach the upper parts of the walls.

Painting experience is preferred. There are no windows or molding, so the painting is relatively easy. However, as this is in a museum, we cannot have paint dripping on the floor or throughout the galleries.

Volunteers are asked to wear clothes they feel comfortable painting in.
