Read and Eat - Produce Bagging and Delivery to Our Children
The Read and Eat program serves children and families in Martha O'Bryan's Early Learning Center. Each week, students receive a bag of fresh produce along with an information sheet that offers simple literacy activities and a recipe featuring the produce item. This allows children an opportunity to read, cook, and learn with their families. The program helps our students develop important literacy skills and provides our families with nutritious fruits and vegetables.
Volunteers are needed every Thursday morning to help distribute the produce that is delivered by Second Harvest Food Bank. This typically involves sorting and bagging items, attaching the information sheets, and delivering baskets to each classroom. There is an opportunity for committed volunteers to serve in the program on a consistent basis and also assist with the creation of related literacy activities and recipes.
