American Forests: Urban Tree Planting

Volunteers NEEDED! Help plant strategically placed trees in East Nashville neighborhoods to increase the street tree canopy. These projects aim to improve streetscapes through the social, economic, and environmental benefits of urban trees. Volunteers will also learn the value of Nashville’s urban forest, and how to care for planted trees. It is estimated that the annual value of East Nashville's street trees is nearly $1 million. Come and help protect this investment!

This work is made possible through American Forests’ Community ReLeaf Program, and in partnership with Metro Beautification and Environment Commission and Soundforest.org.

Project leaders will be on site to teach volunteers how to properly plant trees.

Some volunteers will work together in small groups of 2-4 to plant up to 3 pre-marked trees at pre-selected homes in East Nashville. Each group can expect to plant trees at 5-7 homes per project and will travel by foot and/or car from site to site (depending on distance). The project is 3 hours long and includes education and lunch.

Other volunteers will work together in small groups to plant street trees around the campus of Meigs Middle Magnet School.

  • Groups and individuals encouraged to sign up. Perfect team-building opportunity.
  •  NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED! All work is supervised by a Project Leader, and all equipment and materials are provided! Volunteers can expect to work with shovels.
  • Volunteers should wear work clothes that can get dirty. Please dress appropriately for the weather.
  • Closed-toe shoes are required. Work boots, hiking boots, or old sneakers are great. No flip flops or sandals.
