Ways To Volunteer
Find the volunteer opportunity that fits your schedule!
We offer something for everyone, ranging from one-time volunteer projects to those requiring a more significant time commitment. Our goal is to make volunteering accessible to everyone, regardless of how busy you are.
The items under the "Ways To Volunteer" tab in the left-hand menu offer more information about the different ways to volunteer through Hands On Nashville. The information below provides an overview of the three main ways you can volunteer.
►Have a few hours?
Join a group of other community volunteers for a 1-4 hour project, led by a trained HON Volunteer Leader or a staff person from one of HON’s Nonprofit Partners. No advance training or ongoing commitment required! Check out the Opportunity Calendar to browse these service projects. To sign up, select Sign Up at the bottom of the opportunity detail page. You will receive an email confirmation with additional details, including directions. Remember: You can hone your search results by expanding the “Basic Search and Search Options” box.
►Looking for more in-depth opportunities?
Search all of our volunteer opportunities to find longer-term service projects – what we call To-Be-Scheduled Opportunities (formerly Volunteer Classifieds). These opportunities can be found on the Search Opportunities page. Designed to offer more flexible scheduling, these opportunities have “Open” listed in the “Time” column (rather than a specific date/time). Click on Express Interest at the bottom of the opportunity detail page, and our Nonprofit Partner will contact you directly with further information about the volunteer opportunity. An email will also be sent to you with contact information for the organization so that you can follow up with them if you do not get a response.
These opportunities allow you:
- to volunteer with the same nonprofit on a regular basis
- to work with the nonprofit to set your schedule
- often to work directly with the nonprofit's clients
To view a list of only To-Be-Scheduled opportunities: In the "Basic Search" box on the left, select "To Be Scheduled" under "Schedule Type." Hone your search by keyword, issue area, availability, and more by using the additional filters found below the Basic Search box. To-Be-Scheduled opportunities do not appear on the Opportunity Calendar. They only appear on the Search Opportunities page.
►Share your skills.
Use your professional skills to make a difference for nonprofits in Nashville. From grant writing and web design to accounting and administrative assistance, there is a diverse listing of skilled volunteer needs. Check out the Skills-based Volunteering page.
