YVC: MLK Day of Service

Big thanks to the 90 youth volunteers who made the YVC MLK Day of Service such a success!  Our youth volunteers had the chance to work directly with women and children served by the Nashville Rescue Mission and participate in an in-depth homelessness education training facilitated by Open Table Nashville. Youth sorted over 300 winter coats and socks, and served lunch to over 100 women and children.

In the afternoon, youth volunteers hosted an activities fair for 75 women and children. Activities included resume writing, mock interviews, making blankets, and shopping for coats and necessities. Women and children were also given the opportunity to receive a free haircut and make a healthy snack. It was a fun and educational MLK Day. Youth volunteers helped accomplish the following outcomes on MLK Day:

100+ coats were given out
30 fleece blankets made
33+ haircuts given to women and children
9 hairstylists offering services
5 resumes created and printed for women seeking employment
20+ bracelets made by elementary kids
70+ healthy snack bags made by women and children

Thanks to all of you who made it possible, especially our event partners and sponsors:
