ReCYCLE for Kids Makes Bikes Ownership a Reality for Hundreds of Community Youth

Two hundred elementary school students served by Metro Parks community centers took home their very own bicycles and bike helmets on May 17, 2014, as part of Hands On Nashville’s ReCYCLE for Kids presented by Jackson.

ReCYCLE for Kids engages community volunteers in providing refurbished bikes, new helmets and basic safety education for underserved children.

“This is truly a volunteer-driven effort, from the donations of used bikes to financial contributions we received during The Big Payback to support the cost of new helmets for the kids,” said Hands On Nashville President and CEO Brian Williams. “ReCYCLE for Kids harnesses the volunteer spirit of this community and puts it to action.”

A big thank-you for your #BigPayback love.

Helmets off to you, Nashville, for your support of Middle Tennessee's nonprofits during The Big Payback! Our community should be very proud of the results: $1.5 million given by nearly 11,500 donors over the course of 24 hours.

We are amazed and humbled by your generosity and support of Hands On Nashville: $17,000+ was given to support Hands On Nashville's work, exceeding our goal to support the cost of 200 new bike helmets for kids who will benefit from our ReCYCLE for Kids program. This includes a $2,500 match of our $2,500 goal from our friends at Jackson National Life Insurance - presenting sponsor of ReCYCLE for Kids.

The donations raised beyond our goal will go to support Hands On Nashville's year-round youth leadership programming. Thank you for making this possible. Together, we empower our community's future leaders to learn, grow, and LEAD.
