Backyard Sustainable Gardening: EcoGardens
Saturday April 20
9 a.m.
Gardens function best when they work as mini ecosystems. During this workshop, you'll learn how to increase the health, diversity, and ultimately the yield of your garden by thinking of it as a whole system, with every living and non-living piece fine-tuned to work together.
We'll also be building a raised bed for that ecosystem to live in, and showing you how to build your own for less than $35!

Backyard Sustainable Gardening: Companion Planting
Saturday April 20
Saturday April 20
2 to 4 p.m.

Some plants, like some people, don't have the right lifestyles to live right on top of one another. You'll maximize your garden's success by growing plants that complement each other, and this class will show you how to build the friendliest of plant neighborhoods.
We'll talk about "guilds" -- groups of plants that help each other be awesome -- and learn how to make a trellis for your beans and peas using sustainable materials. Come with your questions or just a desire to make an incredible garden!

Sunday April 21
Sunday April 21
3 to 5 p.m.
Kids can garden, and the benefits of doing so are huge and varied -- they'll get an early understanding of the connection between what they eat where it comes from; gain valuable skills to carry on into adulthood; and and get to see, very literally, how hard work can bear fruit. Plus, they'll spend fun time in the sun exploring and learning with you -- no matter how old you are, there's something magical about planting a seed and seeing it grow into something you can eat.
In this family-friendly workshop, we focus on teaching kids basic gardening skills through hands-on activities. And because creating a desire to eat tasty vegetables is just as important as learning to grow them, we’ll be learning about nutrition and healthy eating choices.
Everyone will leave with a seed cup they started themselves along with a veggie plant that’s already been started and ready to put in your own garden at home!
