VolunTEEN: MLK Day Presented by Jackson
Calling ALL youth to action! Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent questions is, "What are you doing for others?" Each year, Americans across the country, of every age and background, answer that question by coming together to serve their neighbors and communities on MLK Day. To commemorate this historic day, HON is partnering with Sophia's Heart, a nonprofit who provides transitional housing for families in crisis. We invite youth ages 15-18 to paint this facility on Monday, January 16th, 2012 and help launch a new community space. While there, teens will benefit from a safety and prevention message. Two painting shifts are offered: (9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m.). More than 100 spots are available, and on site instruction will be provided by adult supervisors. If you’d like to sign up a school or church youth group, contact colleen@hon.org.
All participants must be 15 or older. All volunteers should wear clothes that can get paint on them and close-toed shoes. All volunteers under the age of 18 are required to bring a signed Volunteer Release Form with them to the project.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 15+, Minimum Age:15+
