About EVE

Excellence in Volunteer Engagement (EVE), a certification program for Middle Tennessee nonprofits, is the first certification effort of its kind in the nation. EVE recognizes nonprofit organizations that employ high-quality volunteer management practices. The goal of EVE is to increase volunteerism in Davidson County by encouraging all nonprofits to work toward volunteer management programs that offer first-rate volunteer opportunities and experiences.

All nonprofit organizations headquartered in Davidson County are eligible to apply.

EVE is presented and facilitated by Hands On Nashville, the Center for Nonprofit Management and the Mayor's office. A panel of judges representing the volunteer community, nonprofits, and civic engagement leaders from the private sector determine which organizations qualify for the two-year certification.

For those agencies that achieve EVE certification, a distinctive green ribbon will be provided to serve as a beacon for volunteers.

Nonprofits are reviewed on five key areas of volunteer management. All EVE-certified organizations will:

1. Include a volunteer component in their strategic plans.

2. Have an identified and trained volunteer manager.

3. Ensure volunteers’ time and talent are well-utilized.

4. Provide orientation for all volunteers.
5. Evaluate volunteers’ impact on the community and agency.

Excellence in Volunteer Engagement was co-founded by Hands On Nashville, Center for Nonprofit Management and Mayor Karl Dean in November 2011. In 2016, Mayor Megan Barry renewed this unique cross-sector partnership recognizing nonprofits with high-quality volunteer management practices.
