Academic Student Union Assistant
Academic Student Unions provide opportunities to help individuals graduate high school, enter college and vocational school, secure a job, and become prosperous adults. Martha O'Bryan Center operates ASUs at Stratford STEM Magnet High School, Stratford STEM Middle School, Maplewood High School, and Hunters Lane High School.
An ASU Assistant acts as an aid for the ASU staff and the students they serve, while supporting the goals of Academic Student Union programming and the mission of Martha O'Bryan Center.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists program directors with ASU programming.
- Develops relationship with middle school and high school students who utilize ASU programming.
- Engages students in subject-based tutoring.
- Advises students in career planning, internship opportunities, resume building, and employment interviewing.
- Sustains the nurturing learning environment for students.
- Provides enrichment opportunities for students.
Time Commitment: 2-3 hours, late afternoon
Qualifications: Pleasant manner, patience, dependability, exhibits energy and enthusiasm and an interest in working in the nonprofit sector.
An ASU Assistant will need to attend an orientation prior to volunteering.
Looking for individuals with an education background in math, sciences, medical, architecture, or engineering for subject-based tutoring.
Looking for individuals with talents in the arts, music, trade, etc. to host workshops or enrichment programming.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 18+, Minimum Age:18+
