Serve at Kid's Café with Martha O'Bryan Center

Martha O'Bryan's Family Resource Center hosts Kid's Café every Monday and needs volunteers weekly. The café offers and serves a hot meal to children and families who are in the middle of a food desert located in the heart of James Cayce Homes. Kid's Café not only provides a free meal but it also serves as a space for members of the community to come together and have positive social interactions. We are seeking volunteers who are culturally sensitive, compassionate, and have a heart for service.

Kid's Café hours are 4:00pm-5:15pm (including clean up). Volunteers are to arrive at 3:30pm to meet and greet the Family Engagement Program Manager, Anna Herring, at the front desk. All volunteers will sign in and will receive a volunteer badge and an apron.

Below is the list of volunteers’ responsibilities:

  • Assisting with Kid's Café setup - Move kitchen equipment, wipe tables, and gather kitchen utensils
  • Setting up food serving station
  • Serving food, snacks, and beverages
  • Having positive interactions with the community members

Prior to volunteering, you must complete a background check. We will provide more information once you have signed up.

We would love for you to come join us and share in a moment of service and gratitude!

In accordance with Mayor John Cooper’s Roadmap for Reopening Nashville, Hands On Nashville recommends the following guidelines for volunteering:

  • Individuals belonging to the following groups should not volunteer for in-person opportunities: ages 65 and up, those with elevated health risk or compromised immune systems, anyone who is feeling unwell (or who has been exposed to/is caring for someone who is sick or has a compromised immune system).

  • Volunteers who attend projects should take recommended precautions, including maintaining distances between themselves and other people; practicing hand-washing and sanitation of spaces; wearing gloves, masks, and other protective gear; etc. As always, consult a medical professional should you begin to feel unwell at any point during or after a project.

If you decide not to attend a project, please log in to hon.org and remove yourself from the opportunity ahead of time so that another volunteer may have a chance to fill your slot. If you have any trouble with this, email hon@hon.org and we’ll be happy to help!

Please be aware that your project may be canceled with short notice. Projects are subject to change depending on shifting guidelines and circumstances. We appreciate your understanding.
