Photographer/Videographer for "Read Me Day" Celebrations
Read Me Day was started in 1986 by Frankie DeWees, a teacher at East Hickman Elementary School in Lyles, Tennessee, to celebrate the importance of reading and providing literary services to Nashville’s youth. The event was called “Read Me Day” because students, teachers, and visiting readers were invited to wear a shirt, cap, or pin with a message on it so the children could “read the reader.” Over the years, the emphasis has expanded into a more general celebration of reading, but the name stuck with us.
Book’em has sponsored Read Me Day since 1990, and has recently expanded it into Read Me Month, holding four celebrations at four different elementary schools throughout the month of February.
The dates for Read Me Day are 2/14, 2/21, 2/28, and 3/6.
We are looking for professional or semi-professional volunteers to help us capture the spirit of these celebrations through photos and video footage. These are fun, lively events that kick off with a school-wide reading celebration assembly followed by read-aloud time in individual classrooms. We do not have cameras or video cameras available to use, so please plan to bring your own.
Once you have expressed interest, we will follow up with you about specific locations, times, and expectations. Thank you!
