Community Dinner Host
Dismas House is a Transitional Living Facility that supports returning citizens as they transition from incarceration back into the Nashville Community. Since 1974, community dinners have provided a space for community, love, and acceptance and is a vital part of what we do here at Dismas.
We are always in search of dinner hosts to prepare or deliver dinner for our 20-30 hungry residents every Monday through Thursday evening after they return from work or complete the Dismas Programming for the day. Not only will you be able to show your creativity in the kitchen, but you will also partake in the community of Dismas house that is providing support toward second chances for men who are transitioning back into society.
There are many different ways to be involved in Community Dinner.
Prepare a meal (or a portion of a meal) in our state of the art kitchen which is cleaned, santized, and fully equipped for you! The kitchen is open for you to use from 4:30pm and dinner is served at 6:00pm. If you want to prepare at home or order it catered, that is great! Just come by before 6:00pm. (Any money that you spend on food can be claimed as tax deductible- just ask for a reciept!)
If you feel comfortable, we invite you to join us in our spacious new dining room to enjoy dinner and conversation with our residents from a safe and appropriate distance. Naturally, if you are in a high-risk category for Covid19, we encourage you to stay home and stay safe.
PLEASE NOTE: This is not a guaranteed sign up for a specific slot, but rather an "express interest" opportunity. If you express interest in this opportunity, a member of our staff will be in touch to schedule you for an available date on our calendar that best suits you.
Please email Jordan below with any questions!
In accordance with Mayor John Cooper’s Roadmap for Reopening Nashville, Hands On Nashville recommends the following guidelines for volunteering:
Individuals belonging to the following groups should not volunteer for in-person opportunities: ages 65 and up, those with elevated health risk or compromised immune systems, anyone who is feeling unwell (or who has been exposed to/is caring for someone who is sick or has a compromised immune system).
Volunteers who attend projects should take recommended precautions, including maintaining distances between themselves and other people; practicing hand-washing and sanitation of spaces; wearing gloves, masks, and other protective gear; etc. As always, consult a medical professional should you begin to feel unwell at any point during or after a project.
If you decide not to attend a project, please log in to hon.org and remove yourself from the opportunity ahead of time so that another volunteer may have a chance to fill your slot. If you have any trouble with this, email email@example.com and we’ll be happy to help!
Please be aware that your project may be canceled with short notice. Projects are subject to change depending on shifting guidelines and circumstances. We appreciate your understanding
