Assist with Black Lives Matter Mural


Volunteers are needed to assist and support a mural designed to amplify the message of Black Lives Matter that has been springing up across the nation in large cities and smaller towns. Thaxton Waters II, prominent artist and muralist will lead a group of artists in bringing a unique vision to our city. 
 
Volunteers are needed to: 
  • Assist with registration 
  • Help direct the public 
  • Work the water tent 
  • Act as main stage assistance 
  • Supervise/support painting
  • Assist will social distancing guidelines 
  • Clean-up after the event
 
This event needs volunteers from 11am to 8pm. There are 3 shifts listed below, but if you are free for a little as 2 hours at any point during the event we’d love to have you help. 
 
Please express interest in any of the 3 shifts below and a Black Lives Matter representative will be in touch to officially schedule your volunteer time. 
 
The exact volunteers activities needed will vary depending on your available time. 
 
Volunteers will be given an event t-shirt and the option to participate in helping to paint the mural prior to the general public. 
 
Volunteers should dress comfortably, but be presentable, as this event is outdoors. Volunteers should bring a water bottle and a personal mask.

In accordance with Mayor John Cooper’s Roadmap for Reopening Nashville, Hands On Nashville recommends the following guidelines for volunteering:  
   
Individuals belonging to the following groups should not volunteer for in-person opportunities: ages 65 and up, those with elevated health risk or compromised immune systems, anyone who is feeling unwell (or who has been exposed to/is caring for someone who is sick or has a compromised immune system).   
  
Volunteers who attend projects should take recommended precautions, including maintaining distances between themselves and other people; practicing hand-washing and sanitation of spaces; wearing gloves, masks, and other protective gear; etc. As always, consult a medical professional should you begin to feel unwell at any point during or after a project.   
  
If you decide not to attend a project, please log in to hon.org and remove yourself from the opportunity ahead of time so that another volunteer may have a chance to fill your slot. If you have any trouble with this, email hon@hon.org and we’ll be happy to help!   
  
Please be aware that your project may be canceled with short notice. Projects are subject to change depending on shifting guidelines and circumstances. We appreciate your understanding.
