You will be able to use your expertise to help the Dismas community of residents expand their skills in new areas. Research shows that people with hobbies are generally healthier, with lower risk of depression, dementia, and high blood pressure. Hobbies are important means of redirecting the mind away from the day’s work and onto something more enjoyable, relieving the stress of the day. This has an impact on the quality of life, school, study time and family relationships.

Dismas House offers a variety of times and days for volunteers based on your availability to share your hobby either as a group or individually and based on the residents’ interest.   Space is available at our location and occasionally may cover the cost of supplies with prior approval.  Liability is also a consideration for some hobbies, skills or activities (ie. Skydiving, kayaking, archery).

The mission of Dismas House is to foster community awareness and understanding of the challenges and obstacles formerly incarcerated men face upon reentry by providing a system for personal transformation and growth as they transition back into society.
