Grocery Delivery Driver

Let me start by explaining our mission. The Store is inspired by Unity Shoppe, located in Santa Barbara, California. Unity Shoppe has been helping families in the community for more than 100 years. Brad Paisley and Kimberly Williams-Paisley first visited Unity Shoppe with their sons. "We took our boys to Unity Shoppe to teach them about serving others and giving back to people in need," says Paisley. "And we came away surprised by what the organization had taught us. Most people don't want handouts. They want dignity and respect. Most people want to become self-sufficient." They were so inspired by the way Unity Shoppe empowers people, including volunteers, that they wanted to expand on that model here in Nashville. The Store is its own unique spin on a free grocery store that offers a healthy food shopping experience.

We are dependent on a volunteer base that is excited and passionate about building a better Nashville and Middle Tennessee. We will need volunteers to deliver groceries to seniors in the Metro-Nashville area. This volunteer activity requires some heavy lifting and must use your own vehicle with a valid driver's license and insurance.

The days and times volunteers will be needed are Wednesday and Thursday of every week at 11am.

When you arrive at 11:00 am on Wednesday or Thursday please pull into The Store parking lot. It is a small lot, so if it is full please wait till a spot becomes available. When you arrive you will fill out a volunteer waiver form (if you have not already) and a small questionnaire that asks questions to ensure you are free of any COVID symptoms prior to completing a delivery. We will have only two drivers in The Store at a time for pick-up and filling out forms. Then you will wash your hands and we will provide you with gloves. Please also bring and wear a mask. If you need one we will provide one for you.

All the bags that you will deliver are ready to go when you arrive. You along with our staff will help put the bags into your vehicles. There are typically no more than 10 deliveries per driver. We already have the routes and addresses ready and printed out for you to take with you. The routes are not necessarily in order, but they are in the same zip code area. Please see below for applications that may help you plan for the best route. Each delivery has the recipient's name, home address, and phone number (some may be missing phone number). You will be handed your list when you arrive. We ask when you complete delivery to knock loudly and if no answer please attempt a phone call if they do not answer. Once they answer the door place the bags at the foot of their door, step back, and let the recipient take their bags themselves. This is to keep you and them protected. Remember most people you are delivering to are 65+ and many are hard of hearing, so please knock loudly.

You may be tempted to take the bags in their home for them, but please do not! We want to be as safe and cautious as possible. If they do not answer the door please write on the bag the date and time you left the bag and leave it at their door. When you are done with your deliveries you can go about your day, you do not have to return to The Store.
