South Nashville Encampment Clean- Up #NashvilleFlooding
Shower the People is looking for participants to take part in an emergency encampment clean-up, due to damage caused by the flood on March 25th! Volunteers will assist with the removal of trash and flood debris located throughout the encampment to create a more sustainable and safe environment.
COVID-19 protocols and guidelines will be followed, and each volunteer will be asked to wear a mask and remain 6 feet apart, as much as possible. To participate in this encampment clean-up, please sign up and contact Kelsea Comb, Shower the People’s Homeless Community Bus Coordinator, if you have questions.
By participating in this project, volunteers can assist our unhoused friends with sustainability, safety, and disaster relief. The primary goal of this project is to show dignity to the individuals who live here and show that we are a stronger community when we work together. Although this flood has created an immense amount of damage, it has not damaged our spirits!
Parking instructions will be emailed after you have signed up for the event. Please wear closed toed shoes, bring work groves, if you have them, wear clothes that are comfortable, and sunscreen. If you have tools that can assist (rakes, shovels, pickers, pokers, etc) please bring them, if possible. Groups are permitted; however, please contact Kelsea Comb, beforehand to discuss safety protocols and logistics.
In accordance with Mayor John Cooper’s Roadmap for Reopening Nashville, Hands On Nashville recommends the following guidelines for volunteering:
Individuals belonging to the following groups should not volunteer for in-person opportunities: ages 65 and up, those with elevated health risk or compromised immune systems, anyone who is feeling unwell (or who has been exposed to/is caring for someone who is sick or has a compromised immune system).
Volunteers who attend projects should take
recommended precautions, including maintaining distances between themselves and other people; practicing hand-washing and sanitation of spaces; wearing gloves, masks, and other protective gear; etc. As always, consult a medical professional should you begin to feel unwell at any point during or after a project.
If you decide not to attend a project, please log in to hon.org and remove yourself from the opportunity ahead of time so that another volunteer may have a chance to fill your slot. If you have any trouble with this, email email@example.com and we’ll be happy to help!
Please be aware that your project may be canceled with short notice. Projects are subject to change depending on shifting guidelines and circumstances. We appreciate your understanding.
