Share A Meal With Our Residents!
For over 40 years, Dismas House of Nashville has served as a beacon of hope for formerly incarcerated men desperately looking for a second chance, and a program that is vital to our success is our Community Dinners! These dinners provide a space for community, love, and acceptance, and we would love for you participate in these dinners with us.
We are always in search of dinner hosts to prepare or deliver dinner for our 25-35 hungry residents every Monday through Thursday evening after they return from work or complete the Dismas Programming for the day. Each night will have a culinary theme, and this theme will help give you an idea of what you could prepare. Italian, Asian, Mexican, and Breakfast for Dinner are just some of our menu options.
Volunteers can prepare a meal in our state-of-the-art kitchen which is cleaned, sanitized, and fully equipped! Volunteers also have the option to prepare a meal at home or order it catered, just be sure to bring it by our facility before 6:00pm. (Any money that you spend on food can be claimed as tax deductible- just ask for a receipt!)
Additionally, we have a partnership with Nashville Food Project who provides a fresh, healthy meal every Thursday night for our community. Residents will be able to invite their own families to share the meal with our greater Dismas community of staff, residents, and volunteers. If you sign up for a Thursday night, there is no cooking required. All you have to bring is yourself and a willingness to serve as part of the family!
If you feel comfortable, we invite you to join us in our spacious new dining room to enjoy dinner and conversation with our residents from a safe and appropriate distance. Naturally, if you are in a high-risk category for Covid19, we encourage you to stay home and stay safe.
