Opportunity Details

Weed Wrangle at Mill Ridge Park

As part of the nationwide Weed Wrangle, we will be removing invasive plant species from the entrance to the Friends House at Mill Ridge Park. This process will involve removing and digging out plants such as privet in order to make the entrance more obvious and accessible.

Friends of Mill Ridge Park seeks to enhance and advocate for Mill Ridge Park to strengthen the community of Southeast Davidson County. Mill Ridge Park welcomes the diverse community of Southeast Davidson County with facilities, programs, services, activities, and events for outdoor recreation, education, conservation, and cultural enrichment. Participating in the Weed Wrangle is a vital part of this work as we prepare for spring activities! Removing invasive plants from the Friends House entrance will prepare the site for community gathering in the spring.

Volunteers should dress for the weather, wearing appropriate layers,  and wear protective clothing suitable for working in dense brush and dirt that you don't mind getting dirty or snagged.  Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, and long sleeves. Snacks and water will be provided.  Volunteers should bring their own gloves and are encouraged to bring any loppers or shovels if you have them.

Volunteers should turn into the driveway off of Old Hickory Boulevard.  It will be marked by yellow flags and orange cones.  Follow the gravel road up and around to the Friends House and park in the grass area to the left of the road.

Weed Wrangle®, is a one-day volunteer effort to help rescue our public parks and green spaces from invasive species through hands-on removal of especially harmful trees, vines and flowering plants.  Weed Wrangle®-Nashville volunteers will learn, practice, and begin a habit of maintaining an area free of invasive plants. By engaging our neighbors and challenging them to take action in their own spaces, we hope to create a movement that will have the greatest impact on the invasive plant population in the Nashville area.
