Weed Wrangle at Shelby Bottoms Nature Center
Join Shelby Bottoms Nature Center's Weed Wrangle and help us remove invasive-exotic species to open viewsheds of the Cumberland River and surrounding wetlands. Clearing invasive plants makes a significant and positive difference, as it will allow native plants to thrive and also improve site-stability and aesthetics for visitors to enjoy.
Volunteers will:
- remove invasive plants using shears and loppers
- remove vegetation and pile in designated areas
- remove debris that harbors invasive plant growth
Volunteers should dress in layers appropriate for the weather and wear comfortable long sleeves and pants and durable closed-toe shoes. Please bring your favorite pair of gloves. Volunteers should bring a water bottle and any snacks that they might want. We will meet in the grass field on the side of the Nature Center closer to the Cumberland River.
Weed Wrangle®, is a one-day, citywide and statewide volunteer effort to help rescue our public parks and green spaces from invasive species through hands-on removal of especially harmful trees, vines and flowering plants. Weed Wrangle®-Nashville volunteers will learn, practice, and begin a habit of maintaining an area free of invasive plants. By engaging our neighbors and challenging them to take action in their own spaces, we hope to create a movement that will have the greatest impact on the invasive plant population in the Nashville area.
