Nashville SC 3rd Annual Road to Opening Match Day of Service – Tree Planting

To commemorate the start of Nashville SC’s home season and the opening of GEODIS Park, Nashville SC in partnership with Delek USA and the Nashville Tree Foundation, will host the 3rd Annual Road to Opening Match Day of Service.

In conjunction with the Nashville Tree Foundation, one of Nashville’s leading nonprofit organizations supporting environmental sustainability, the service activity will allow fans and supporters to plant over 60 trees along Brown’s Creek Greenway which borders Fair Park and Nashville SC’s new stadium.

Over 60 trees will be planted by Nashville SC fans and supporters at the Browns Creek Greenway just outside GEODIS Park.  An additional 150 trees will be distributed to residents and businesses to be planted in the surrounding area.

Volunteer Notes:
  • Closed toe shoes are required - work boots are recommended.
  • Heavy lifting may be required.
  • Bring your own face mask, sunscreen, drinking water, work gloves and a long handled spade or pickaxe if you have one.
  • A limited number of work gloves and tools are available to borrow.
  • Volunteer assignments are outside, so dress accordingly.
  • Volunteers will be able to enjoy music, soccer activities, giveaways and mascot appearances as part of this overall event

The project will provide much-needed restoration to the Brown’s Creek Greenway, specifically native trees which are needed to mitigate storm water, control erosion, and provide wildlife habitat. In addition to the environmental benefits, new trees will serve as a beautification project for the greenway and improve the urban tree canopy.

Nashville SC and Nashville Tree Foundation will celebrate the 150th anniversary of National Arbor Day, which was first observed in 1872, by giving away 150 additional trees during the event for families and local businesses to take home and plant in the surrounding area.

The Day of Service is part of MLS WORKS Greener Goals initiative, the League’s commitment to address its greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint by measuring, reducing and offsetting emissions and raising awareness about environmental issues throughout the soccer community, and supports MLS’s One Tree Planted initiative which aims to plant up to 28,000 trees in MLS markets across the United States and Canada.

The collaboration also showcases Nashville SC’s commitment to supporting local sustainability efforts throughout the Nashville region, including Root Nashville, an effort to plant 500,000 trees in Middle Tennessee by year 2050

This volunteer project is part of a larger event and celebration of the start of the Nashville SC’s season. This event will have music, soccer activities, giveaways and mascot appearances. If you don’t wish to volunteer, but you wish to attend the event you are absolutely welcome to. In that case, please DO NOT sign up below. On site project registration MAY be possible, but only volunteers who sign up in advance will be guaranteed a project spot in this project.
