Grow Gardens with The Nashville Food Project (McGruder, North Nashville)

The Nashville Food Project’s vibrant community gardens provide a space for over 70 individuals and families to be able to grow their own vegetables. These garden spaces function as outdoor classrooms, urban sanctuaries and community centers for the participants who grow in them. Each is created as a safe space for all who enter and a place where true community can be built.
As a volunteer in this space you will be tasked with helping to maintain communal and perineal areas. Garden tasks vary with the seasons and may include but not limited to composting, weeding, mulching, planting perennial plants and flowers, path maintenance and of course, having fun! You will have the chance to get your hands (and everything else) dirty, so dress for the occasion. We recommend boots or closed toe shoes and layers if the weather is chilly. Garden projects will occur rain or shine (with the exception of lightning!) so bring a rain jacket and hat. We’ll provide the tools and garden gloves, but you’re always welcome to bring your own. Your help keeps the garden looking and feeling healthy, welcoming, and vibrant. We can’t wait to welcome you to one of our gardens!
We typically work in light rain but cancel if temperatures under 32 degrees and/or there is heavy rain/lightning in the garden.
Please note that due to the natural setting of our garden plots, there is uneven terrain that may be difficult to navigate for folks with mobility limitations. Additionally, while there are port-a-pot facilities for participant use, they are not ADA accessible at this site. If you need special accommodations to participate, please don't hesitate to reach out to elizabeth@thenashvillefoodproject.org prior to your volunteer time and our team will do our best to make necessary arrangements.
TNFP strives to create a welcoming environment for all people. Our mission, values, and statement of anti-racism can be found here: https://www.thenashvillefoodproject.org/learn-more
