Medical Accompaniment for Sexual Assault Exams - Volunteer Advocates wanted!

 
COMPASSIONATE, DEDICATED COMMUNITY MEMBERS NEEDED TO: 
  • Respond to survivors of sexual assault during evidence collection 
  • Receive training in immediate crisis intervention 
  • Work towards creating a community that is free from sexual violence 
Our next training will be the weekends of January 14th and 21st, 9am-4pm on the Saturdays, 12-5 on the Sundays! 
  
The Medical Accompaniment Program involves responding to the SAC's SAFE Clinic, Nashville General Hospital and Vanderbilt Medical Center when a victim/survivor comes in for a medical care and/or evidence collection (a rape kit) immediately following a sexual assault. During this time volunteers act as advocates and are available to support the victim/survivor however they may need. This may include but is not limited to answering questions, providing emotional support and crisis intervention, helping to anticipate next steps, and supporting victim/survivors' friends and loved ones.  
  
  • Application, interview, background check, and completion of 30-hour training required. Trainings are offered quarterly at the SAC. Currently accepting applications for Late July training. Fall training to follow. No prior education or experience in the field needed. 
  • Minimum requirement of 3 shifts (6-hour on-call shifts) per month for at least six months - you may not get called during a shift, but you have to be able to respond if you did get called. Shift scheduling is flexible to fit volunteers' needs.
