Meet With Local Tornado Survivors
Tornado Recovery Connection (TRC) is working in partnership with UMCOR to help Davidson and Wilson County residents recover from the March tornado. Disaster Case Managers (DCMs) meet with tornado survivors on occasion to assess needs, collect documents, have documents signed, etc. These meetings are typically brief but may run longer.
TRC DCMs are looking for volunteers to join them when meeting with a client for two primary reasons:
- First and foremost, to convey a clear message to tornado survivors that their community cares about their recovery.
- Second, to provide an extra set of eyes and ears along the way.
The dress code for this opportunity is business casual.
A background check is required for this volunteer opportunity. It only takes a few minutes to get the information submitted and is provided at no cost. Please click “express interest” below to start the process. Once submitted, and background check is preformed, a TRC Volunteer Coordinator will be in touch to welcome you and share next steps. This background check is free.
IMPORTANT: We are doing all that we can to protect ourselves, each other, and our community from spreading COVID-19. Volunteers will be expected to comply with TN UMC’s COVID-19 Safety Protocols as do our DCM’s which include: allowing your temperature to be taken, answer a few COVID symptom and contact questions, wear (your own) mask at all times, and observe a 6 – 10’ social distance when at all possible from the start to the end of each meeting.

In accordance with Mayor John Cooper’s Roadmap for Reopening Nashville, Hands On Nashville recommends the following guidelines for volunteering:
- Individuals belonging to the following groups should not volunteer for in-person opportunities: ages 65 and up, those with elevated health risk or compromised immune systems, anyone who is feeling unwell (or who has been exposed to/is caring for someone who is sick or has a compromised immune system).
- Volunteers who attend projects should take recommended precautions, including maintaining distances between themselves and other people; practicing hand-washing and sanitation of spaces; wearing gloves, masks, and other protective gear; etc. As always, consult a medical professional should you begin to feel unwell at any point during or after a project.
If you decide not to attend a project, please log in to hon.org and remove yourself from the opportunity ahead of time so that another volunteer may have a chance to fill your slot. If you have any trouble with this, email hon@hon.org and we’ll be happy to help!
