Field Trip Support Volunteer
NMAAM is the only museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating the many music genres created, influenced, and inspired by African Americans. The museum’s expertly-curated collections share the story of the American soundtrack by integrating history and interactive technology to bring the musical heroes of the past into the present.
As volunteers, you help in achieving our mission to educate the world, preserve the legacy, and celebrate the central role African Americans play in creating the American soundtrack.
Position Description: Field Trip Support Volunteers will assist with chaperoning school-age students during field trips to the National Museum of African American Music. Volunteers will support logistics, group management, and enforcing safety protocols. Volunteers will also engage with students and participate in activities as needed. Field trip support volunteers may facilitate and hand out lunches, and assist with clean-up after.
Job Objective: Volunteers within this capacity will be familiar with the layout of the museum and able to direct students to various galleries, locations, etc. Field Trip support volunteers must enjoy working with children, must be flexible and maintain a professional, well-groomed, friendly, courteous, cooperative, and helpful demeanor when assisting students, visitors, staff, or other volunteers.
Due to the nature of this position background checks and waivers must be processed prior to volunteering.
Field trip groups are hosted at the museum on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am-1pm. Once background checks are processed, scheduling will take place with the assistance of the Volunteer Service Manager.
