Opportunity Details

Weed Wrangle at Antioch Park with Mill Creek Watershed Association

Mill Creek Watershed Association is hosting a Weed Wrangle to remove invasive, non-native plants. This work will allow native trees and shrubs to grow and will benefit the native wildlife that rely on these plants. We will focus on mainly Chinese privet and bush honeysuckle, from both sides of the Greenway trail, starting near the main parking lot and working down the trail.

  • Volunteers should bring their own work gloves, but we will have a limited number available if needed.
  • Energy bars and bulk water will be provided, but please bring your own reusable water bottles.
  • Please wear sturdy work shoes or boots, long pants and long sleeve shirts, and dress in layers appropriate for the weather.
We will use Uprooters/Weed Wrenches, mattocks, shovels, and loppers. Volunteers will be using sturdy and sharp tools- with some being heavy- that will need to be used safely. There will be a safety talk before work starts. To supplement what we provide, volunteers should bring sturdy shovels, mattocks, and loppers, if available, along with safety glasses or eyeglasses. Host organizations will monitor volunteers during work hours.

Mill Creek Watershed Association (MCWA) will be the on-site host for this event, which is being organized county-wide by the Garden Club of Nashville and Weed Wrangle Nashville. MCWA is working to protect and inform about Mill Creek, and to make use of Mill Creek Greenway a more environmentally and aesthetically satisfying experience.

Weed Wrangle®, is a one-day, citywide, volunteer effort to help rescue our public parks and green spaces from invasive species through hands-on removal of especially harmful trees, vines and flowering plants.
