Family and Children’s Service is one of Nashville’s oldest and most venerated nonprofit social service agencies. The mission of FCS is to connect individuals and families to hope, to healing, and to one another. FCS serves all people in crisis and transition by meeting them where they are, understanding their needs, and connecting them to the resources they need. FCS often ‘fills in the gaps’ in social services, creating a safety net to ensure that all children and families can be safe and healthy. Each year FCS provides direct services to more than 32,000 clients, and a 24-hour phone-based crisis and information/referral services to another 200,000 Tennesseans. These services include counseling on a sliding fee scale; United Way’s 2-1-1 Information and Referral line; a Health Navigator program that helps un- and under-insured callers find health care and insurance coverage; Language Translation services for non-English speakers seeking medical care; support services for families exiting the public welfare system; in-school prevention and resource connection for children and families; Survivors of Suicide support groups; Fast Track Homebuyer Education courses; Davidson County Relative Caregiver Program; Wendy’s Wonderful Kids (which helps find adoptive families for foster children over the age of 12); and more.
