Hands On Nashville will postpone 10,000 for 10

In light of Centers for Disease Control recommendations regarding suspending large-scale gatherings in order to combat the spread of COVID-19, HON will postpone 10,000 for 10 and its associated events. Learn more here.

The historic flood of 2010 was more than just a disaster; it was a profound moment of discovery. As strangers became neighbors and helpers became heroes, our city learned exactly what we are made of. Hands On Nashville’s 10,000 for 10 — a monthlong call to action for volunteerism co-chaired by Mayor John Cooper and former Mayor Karl Dean — invites 10,000 Nashville natives and newcomers to reflect, serve, and celebrate the spirit of service ignited in our city nearly 10 years ago. We hope you'll join us in this important initiative! Read on for information on individual events.

HON Day projects will go live for general volunteer registration on March 2. In the meantime, we're looking for Volunteer Leaders! Express interest below, or sign up for email updates so you don't miss out on any details!

About the Events

10,000 for 10 features three signature events — the Mary Catherine Strobel Volunteer Awards luncheon, HON Day, and the HON Day Afterparty — and serves as the launching point for HON’s Disaster Activation Fund.

Reflect: Mary Catherine Strobel Volunteer Awards (April 2)

The 34th annual Strobel Awards honor outstanding local volunteers in six categories, including youth and seniors, along with corporate and civic teams. This year's ceremony features a special flood commemorative video to recognize tireless volunteers who played a significant role in disaster recovery.

Join us at the April 2 luncheon to honor volunteers! See a list of finalists and reserve your seats here

Serve: Hands On Nashville Day (May 2)

Throughout April and on HON Day itself, HON will engage 10,000 volunteers at local nonprofits, schools, and Metro agencies. Ranging from restorative stream cleanups to neighborhood garden construction, activities support disaster preparedness, civic collaboration, and ongoing community needs.

HON Day — our annual citywide day of service — brings together thousands of volunteers to complete done-in-a-day projects at local nonprofit and civic agencies. HON Day projects are now open for registration! If you'd like to be a volunteer leader at a HON Day project, click here. If you have questions about how you or a group can get involved, email our Community Relations Coordinator Savanna Maue.

Celebrate: Hands On Nashville Day Afterparty (TBD)

The details of this piece of 10,000 for 10 are still under development, and we can't wait to share more details with you! Check back here in the coming weeks, or make sure you're signed up for our newsletter!

About the Hands On Nashville Disaster Activation Fund

10,000 for 10 is also the launching point for the Hands On Nashville Disaster Activation Fund, which will position HON to pivot quickly to large-scale volunteer management in the aftermath of a disaster. As the named partner in Metro Nashville’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, HON will deploy these resources to:

  • Audit existing technology and processes and implement improvements.
  • Identify, train, and mobilize a corps of volunteer leaders.
  • Convene disaster-response partners.
