Natchez Trace Trail Restoration & Hike
The Natchez Trace Parkway is a 444-mile drive through exceptional scenery and 10,000 years of North American history. Used by American Indians, "Kaintucks," settlers, and future presidents, the Old Trace played an important role in American history. Come help restore part of the trail and enjoy a ranger-led hike for 2016's National Trails Day! Activities: 1. Trail Maintenance - repair of erosion along the trail and restack of splitrail fence. 2. Trail GPS - hike the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail and use a GPS unit and camera to document features and areas that need repair. What to Bring: Lunch, closed-toe shoes, hat, water, bug spray, and sunscreen. Schedule: 8:00- Volunteer sign in 8:30- Volunteer orientation 8:45-11:30- Volunteers travel to work sites and perform projects 11:30- Volunteers return from projects 12:00-1:00- Lunch with music 1:00- Event ends Let’s Move! Outside Volunteer hours associated with this project support the “Let’s Move! Outside” initiative, a nationwide effort to provide opportunities for young people to work, learn, play, and serve outdoors and on public lands. This effort is made possible through partnership between the YMCA of the USA, the Department of the Interior, American Express, the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, Nashville’s Mayor Megan Barry, and Hands On Nashville.
