GED tutor- Begin Anew- Nashville Location #UWGN
Are you a Christian looking for a place to share your knowledge and help others advance their education? Then this is for you!
Begin Anew is a faith-based education program working to empower individuals to overcome obstacles created by poverty. We provide GED test prep, English as a Second Language, and Computer and Job skills classes to adults, as well as mentoring and access to resources. Most of our students did not succeed in the traditional classroom setting, which is where you come in!
Under the guidance and direction of the Program Manager, HSE tutors will:
- Assist adult students in a classroom setting with preparation for the High School Equivalency (GED) test in one of five subjects: Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Science. Instruction is one-on-one or in a small group. Tutors can request a subject they are most comfortable instructing in, and teaching materials with answer keys are provided by the Program Manager.
- Update each student’s weekly work log indicating subject areas studied and next steps
- Develop relationships with students
- Uphold the mission, vision, and statement of faith of Begin Anew
- Previous teaching experience is helpful, but not required. We are just looking for a willingness to serve and a desire to help others achieve their goals.
Choose from classes on Monday and Thursday nights from 6–8pm. We ask that volunteers commit to one 2-hour shift each week for an entire semester.
This position requires volunteers to complete an application and pass a background check. Training and resources will be provided to you by the Program Manager.
